Problem solved

We went by the house at the weekend to see how the angle grinding had gotten on.

The door recess is certainly a lot lower. Disconcertingly, it now looks like it’s going to be too low. Thankfully though it’ll be be far easier to pack a gap than to squeeze a solid door. Fingers crossed we get the finished effect we’re looking for.

We got a bonus extra surprise to spot that our stone benchtops had been installed:

Coffee Shrine
The coffee shrine’s almost finished! Ooooh how I long for a strong coffee! Only 4 more months of pregnancy to go 😉

Please excuse the concrete dust, everything was absolutely covered.

Unfortunately, our excitement was extremely short lived because the addition of the waterfall ends to the kitchen island suddenly made it all to clear that the whole thing was in the wrong place.

On the plans both ends of the island line up with the walls behind them:

In practice that’s not what had happened. The red line shows where it actually landed up.

You can see a little clearer in the following pics where we put some wood along the walls the island should have lined up with:

It’s only about 100mm, but it made a huge difference to the overall effect looking rather higgledy-piggledy:

I nervously emailed the site supervisor, wondering when we were ever going to catch a break. To our complete relief he replied almost straight away saying the cabinet makers had acknowledged the error and would fix it within the next week or two. Easy as!

True enough to his word, by the time we dropped in today – and before I’d even had a chance to write a post about the problem – it had already been solved!

Ta daaaah:

Perfectly aligned.

And even better, just in the right of this picture you can see a glimpse of our replacement bedroom french doors resting there ready for installation and correctly glazed with our special acoustic glass. And what you can’t quite see on the far left of the picture is we spied on our way out that the hidden extractor fan has been installed (unfortunately we were in a bit of a rush so no pics of that one).
